Nicaragua
The Need
While urban centers have some hospital infrastructure, over a third of the population lives in rural areas with few clinics and even fewer doctors. Families often travel hours for basic care, and chronic conditions go unmanaged for years.

Rural Health Access
In rural communities, healthcare is often out of reach. Clinics are limited, staff are stretched thin, and patients must travel hours to access even basic services—if they can afford to go at all.
Maternal and Child Health
Gynecology and obstetric care—including screenings, prenatal visits, and postpartum support—are limited or out of reach for many. At the same time, children lack access to consistent pediatric care, contributing to high rates of malnutrition and untreated illness.
Chronic Disease Burden
Without access to primary care, many Nicaraguans rely on pharmacies for treatment. But these businesses are incentivized to sell medication—not manage long-term care. As a result, chronic illnesses like diabetes and hypertension often go undiagnosed and untreated for years.
