He Couldn’t Eat or Sleep—Now Luis Is Thriving Again

When Luis arrived at OneWorld Health’s Huembes clinic, he was in agony.

"I’ve been in terrible pain for days—it’s unbearable," the 52-year-old told the medical team.

He had been struggling with intense abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and painful urination. His legs were swollen, his energy drained. The pain had become more than a discomfort—it had taken over his life.

At Huembes, the team listened carefully and got to work. They conducted a thorough physical exam, ran lab tests, and performed an abdominal ultrasound. The diagnosis was clear but concerning—Luis had fatty liver disease, a condition that put him at higher risk for infections like the urinary tract infection he was battling.

For Luis, this was the first time someone had connected the dots.

The team counseled him on changes he could make—adjusting his diet, incorporating daily movement, and avoiding alcohol and fried foods. They treated the infection with antibiotics and prescribed medication to support his liver function.

Ten days later, Luis returned, already feeling better.
A month later, his liver function had improved—and so had his outlook.

These days, Luis is walking more, eating healthier, and no longer battling the relentless pain that once consumed him. He’s grateful to have the OneWorld Health team by his side, not just treating his illness, but encouraging and supporting him as he embraces a healthier future.

"It’s not just about the medicine," Luis shared. "It’s about the people who make sure you don’t walk through it alone."
