Healing and Hope at Bweyale’s Maternity Ward

At just 20 years old, Charity had imagined these first days with her baby would be filled with joy and new beginnings. But instead, she found herself overwhelmed by fear and exhaustion. She had been feeling weaker by the hour, her body telling her something wasn’t right. Gathering her remaining strength, she made the difficult journey to the Bweyale Inpatient and Maternity Ward, each step fueled by the hope of finding relief and the care she desperately needed.

When she arrived early that morning, she quietly told the nurse, “I felt like my life was in danger before I came here.”

Charity had given birth just three days earlier at a nearby health center in Kiryandongo district. After being discharged, she returned home to care for her newborn. But instead of recovering, she continued to feel worse. She was in severe pain, struggled to regain her strength, and knew something wasn’t right.

At the OneWorld Health facility in Bweyale, the team welcomed her with compassion and urgency. They carefully assessed her and discovered the cause of her discomfort — a complication from childbirth that hadn’t been fully addressed. Charity was admitted right away and given the treatment her body needed to heal, including medication, fluids, and rest under the close watch of the maternity team.

For three days, Charity received the care she had been searching for. She slowly regained her strength, and with it, her peace of mind.

When it was finally time to return home, she smiled, her relief unmistakable.

“I thank God for Bweyale,” she said. “Now I am okay, and I can go home to my baby.”
