Martha’s Lifesaving Diagnosis at OneWorld Health

When Martha arrived at OneWorld Health’s Central Diagnostic Center (CDX) in Nicaragua, she was doubled over in pain.
The discomfort had become unbearable. She explained that she had visited the public hospital the day before, but was sent home with little more than pain medication—and no clear answers. The medicine hadn’t helped. The pain had only worsened.
At CDX, the team listened closely to Martha’s story and acted quickly.
They performed an ultrasound. The images told a story the previous visit had missed: a 6-week-old embryo growing in Martha’s fallopian tube—an ectopic pregnancy.
It was a life-threatening condition that demanded immediate emergency care.
Without treatment, the pregnancy could rupture, putting Martha’s life at serious risk.
The medical team carefully explained the urgency of the situation to Martha and her husband. They were overwhelmed, but also deeply grateful—finally, they understood what was happening, and what needed to be done.
Martha was rushed to the hospital for surgery that same day.
Thanks to the accurate diagnosis and compassionate care at CDX, Martha received the life-saving treatment she needed—just in time.
Her story is a powerful reminder of why access to quality diagnostics and trusted care matters—because sometimes, the difference between life and death is found in a single, timely diagnosis.
