Misdiagnosed and Nearly Lost: How $11 Saved Juan’s Life

Imagine having a heart attack but being told by a local clinic that you are fine, you simply have allergies. You can’t breathe and you have pain shooting throughout your body, but you are told to take some Benadryl. What would you do?
Unfortunately, this is a reality for far too many people in Nicaragua. Juan, a father of six and grandfather of twenty, experienced this exact situation. Luckily, Juan had heard about OneWorld Health’s medical center in Sébaco, and he hurried there for a second opinion.
For $11, Juan immediately received a physical assessment and an EKG, one of the only machines of its kind in the area. Dr. Thomas was able to give Juan lifesaving treatment by administering blood thinners and paying for an urgent taxi to the main hospital in Matagalpa for a stent.
Today this gentleman is alive and well and can enjoy his family. He is thankful for the quality care he received and continues to go back to the Sébaco medical center for follow-up visits to ensure he remains in good health.
