Thrown from a Motorcycle, Saved at Masindi

Over a year ago Irene, age 9, was traveling with her father on the back of a boda boda (a motorcycle taxi which is a common form of transportation in East Africa) when out of nowhere a cargo truck struck the boda boda and she was ejected from the vehicle.

She sustained a head injury as well as extensive lacerations all over her body. Thankfully, she was only miles from OneWorld Health's Masindi-Kitara Hospital (MKH). Upon her arrival, the team immediately administered the appropriate pain medications, dressed her wounds, and later tested her mental function.

It was determined that Irene only suffered a minor concussion and thankfully not a more serious head injury. She was able to go home after a week of observation and then she was monitored closely on a weekly outpatient basis to ensure her head injury didn't develop into something more serious.

Irene's parents are forever grateful to the staff at MKH for saving their daughter from what could have mostly certainly been a fatal situation.
