Last Resort, First Hope: Dr. John Peter’s Story of Healing in Uganda

At Masindi Kitara Medical Center in Uganda, Dr. John Peter Ssemuddu often sees families arrive at the brink of despair.
"They come to us after trying other facilities where they spent all their money but didn’t get healed," he shares.
But at OneWorld Health, these families find more than medical care—they find compassion, dignity, and hope.
Dr. John Peter recalls one young boy whose family had fled the war in Sudan. When they reached Masindi Kitara, the boy was semi-conscious, dangerously malnourished, dehydrated, and fighting multiple life-threatening conditions—pneumonia, skin infections, and acute kidney failure. His parents had heard of the care provided at OneWorld Health and made the long journey, clinging to the hope that their son could be saved.
The team at Masindi Kitara acted quickly. Through collaboration, determination, and expert care, they stabilized the child. Within days, the boy who had arrived weak and silent was sitting up, eating, and playing again.
"It was more than satisfying to see this child gain his life back," Dr. John Peter reflects. "That’s what this work is all about—restoring hope where there was none."
