Meet Nicaragua’s 2026 DAISY Award Winner: Dary Molina

A patient came to the Huembes clinic for dental care. As part of the visit, Nurse Daris Nineth "Dary" Molina Paz checked the patient’s vital signs and discovered that their blood pressure was alarmingly high.

Dary didn't simply send the patient on their way. She explained the concern, helped reassure them and made sure they were referred to internal medicine for care.

The patient later reflected on what happened that day: “That day my life changed… I am very grateful for her wisdom and professionalism.”

It’s one of several stories that led to Dary being named OneWorld Health’s 2026 DAISY Award winner in Nicaragua.

Dary serves at Huembes, where her nominations highlight both her clinical judgment and the way she cares for people in vulnerable moments.

Colleagues recalled several occasions when critically ill patients arrived while Dary was on her lunch break. Without hesitation, she left her meal and rest time to help, administering IVs and therapy and staying with the patients until they recovered.

In another instance, a coworker suddenly became ill. The person’s vital signs were normal, but Dary decided to check their blood glucose. The test revealed a high blood sugar crisis. She acted quickly, working with physicians to determine the appropriate medication while taking the patient’s multiple allergies into account.

Other nominations focused less on what Dary noticed clinically and more on how she made people feel.

One mother arrived at the clinic extremely worried about her daughter’s injured finger. She remembered Dary reassuring her and helping her feel that everything was going to be okay. Another nomination described the gentle way Dary calmed a critically ill infant so the child could receive treatment. And during a painful catheter procedure, a patient remembered Dary keeping the conversation cheerful and helping distract from the pain.

An older patient who visits the clinic monthly shared another example. Dary greets him with a smile, takes his vital signs and then takes the time to escort him by the arm to the waiting room.

Taken together, these stories show why Dary stood out. She pays close attention to what her patients need, responds when something isn't right and brings the same level of care to how people are treated along the way.

We’re proud to recognize Lic. Dary Molina as OneWorld Health’s 2026 DAISY Award winner in Nicaragua.

Congratulations, Dary!
