Asthma Was Holding Alfred Back—Not Anymore

Alfred is an active teenage boy. He plays soccer and baseball regularly after school and enjoys competing with his friends. Occasionally, in the midst of playing, his chest tightens, and he will wheeze severely. After one particularly bad episode his mom decided to take him to the doctors at OneWorld Health.

When Alfred arrived, he described his symptoms and they performed a variety of tests. The doctor diagnosed Alfred with asthma and prescribed him an inhaler. The pharmacist was able to take time to show him how to use it, answer his questions and ensure they would be available for any follow-up needed.

In the US asthma is usually caught early in childhood through regular visits with a pediatrician. However, in Nicaragua, government facilities are often so overburdened that annual exams are not performed, and when diagnoses are made, follow-up is rare. Through the sustainable model at OneWorld Health we can ensure patients get the care they deserve and have access to follow-up as needed.
